History

History

When Nick Dutto was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving his country in Vietnam, he went to work for Aldo Lera, working as a storekeeper/purchasing agent in the Lera Electric warehouse.  This experience was just one of the building blocks Nick would utilize in the management of Metropolitan Electrical Construction over the next 27 years.

Growing up in a family of electricians, it was only natural that Nick become an electrician. Working his way through the trade from Apprentice to General Foreman, by 1981 Nick and fellow native San Franciscan Dave Lindt had the experience and desire necessary to begin Metropolitan, which they did with very little capital, a single used pick up truck and the two of them doing it all – Dave in the office, Nick in the field.

Fast forward to the present and that one truck is now a fleet of 125 vehicles with a field crew of 225-250 and an office and management staff of 50 people.  Wow!

Oh, and along the way, they purchased the building they originally rented an office out of, started two divisions to compliment their electrical work (Data Communications and Special Projects), Dave retired happily ever after and the company exploded into the new century with no sign of slowing down or forgetting the forward thinking behavior and solid customer relations that turned Metro into a $60 Million company.

“It’s all about the relationships”, says Nick proudly as he reflects upon the first 28 years of Metro, “and we still have many of the same customers we started with”.

When asked of his retirement plans, Nick says the only plan is to be carried out of his office at 2400 Third Street.  Now that’s dedication to his company!
